RFID Encoding for Walmart

Walmart began using RFID technology in 2003 to manage inventory in its apparel department. After having established the advantages of technology for managing an inventory that is always accurate, from 2022 it has extended the obligation for RFID labeling to the following categories:

• Toys
• Entertainment/Electronics
• Sports items
• Home
• Automotive batteries
• Wireless

RFID tags must have the EPC memory programmed with the electronic product code in accordance with GS1 standards.

Walmart has benefited greatly from the adoption of RFID technology, to improve the management and visibility of its inventory, and to improve customer services, such as "order online, pick up in store".
