RFID Encoding for Nordstrom

Like many large retail companies, Nordstrom has begun implementing RFID for logistics and warehousing, imposing tagging requirements on its suppliers.

Nordstrom explains that labelling the items with an RFID tag provides customers with the best possible experience, as well as to support a more accurate, real-time inventory.

RFID tags are currently required by Nordstrom for all items in the following categories.

• Clothing (Women’s, Men’s, & Kid’s)
• Accessories
• Children's equipment
• Home and gifts
• Shoes (Women’s, Men’s, & Kid’s)
• Cosmetics and grooming

RFID tags must have the EPC memory programmed with the electronic product code in SGTIN-96 format, in accordance with GS1 standards, with a printed and visible EPC logo. Each of the categories listed above is associated with a specific type of RFID tag, approved by Auburn University, to ensure that the most appropriate RFID tag can be affixed to each product.
